Caring for plants and learning various cooking and crafts skills improves the physical and mental health of all participants. Learning about our environment not only improves the self-esteem and knowledge of participating individuals, but also improves the world for all of us. All participants of Glade Run Gardens learn skills that they can be proud of and use for the rest of their lives in recreational, vocational and life long activities.
Gardening has been proven to relieve stress and anxiety. The calming atmosphere of the greenhouse, gardens and hiking trails provides an appreciation for the environment and helps counter depression and frustration.
Horticultural therapy brings about a number of changes in individuals, including an increase in attention span and the ability to solve problems. Giving a person seeds, soil, and plants to care for enhances their ability to assume responsibility and increases their sense of self worth.
