Specialized Adventures Camp
Specialized Adventures camp is a social skills development camp for individuals ages 8 – 18. Any child in need of social skill development is welcome, however, the camp is specially designed for children with moderate to high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders. This is not an ESY Camp but may be covered for some school districts as ESY.
Camp runs Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Session 1: June 18 – June 29, 2018
Session 2: July 30 – August 10, 2018

Who is this camp for?
Our specialized adventures summer camp is a social skills development camp. Any child ages 8 to 18 in need of social skill development is considered, however, camp is specially designed for children with moderate to high functioning autism spectrum disorders.
Campers should have:
• The ability to participate in all camp activities without requiring one-on-one support. A child with one-on-one full time support may be given special consideration. Please call for more information.
• Independent bathroom skills
• No history or current high levels of physical
aggression or unsafe behavior
What will my camper be doing?
Throughout each week, campers will participate in activities to learn new skills and accomplish goals in our greenhouse, gardens, horse barn, small animals area and woodlands. Camp activities are designed for:
- Socialization & leadership
- Improving self-esteem & decision making
- Reducing anxiety
- Emotional/behavioral management
- Improving concentration
- Sensory integration
- Exploring and expressing feelings and emotions
- Vocational and life skills
- Riding instruction, gardening skills, and environmental care
- Learning group work to accomplish tasks
- Hands-on education of animal and plant care
Where is camp located?
Specialized Adventures Camp is located on the main campus of Glade Run Lutheran Services in and around the Specialty Services Building

- Indoor and outdoor riding arena
- Small animal areas
- Raised bed gardens
- A Greenhouse
- Therapeutic patio areas
- 2 screened gazebos and a large pavilion
- Miles of nature trails and stream exploration
- Outdoor classroom amphitheater and low ropes course
- Air conditioned building with indoor restroom facilities
- Indoor kitchen and activity rooms
- Gross motor and sensory rooms
- A unique sensory park
What are camp's days and hours?
Camps run Monday through Friday, 9:00 am until 3:00 pm
What are campers responsible for bringing and what will be provided?
Campers are responsible for their own transportation and lunch (with the exception of the final Friday’s party lunch). Boots and helmets are provided, but campers should come prepared with their own long pants. A personal water bottle, sunscreen and bug spray are also recommended.
How much does Glade Run's Specialized Adventures Camp cost?
The cost of each two week session is $1,000.00. Arrangements for payment must be made by the parents or guardians of the camper; the Specialized Adventures Summer Camp is not funded by Medical Assistance.
Checks should be made to GLADE RUN LUTHERAN SERVICES.
After acceptance, the remaining balance is due a minimum of two weeks prior to the start of your camp session.
Refunds incur a $25 processing fee and must be requested a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the start of the camp session. Refunds are not made after the start of the camp session unless approved by the Program Director.
Are scholarships available?
Limited Scholarship funding is available through Glade Run Foundation.

Scholarship applications are due by April 1st and will be notified by the Foundation department by April 15th.
How do I sign my child up?
All campers must complete an application and submit it with a $100.00 deposit. Deposits are 100% refundable to campers not accepted into camp.
All application information must be completed to be considered for camp. Camp space is limited.
How do I know if my application has been accepted?
Applicants will be contacted by email regarding participation.
Visits are required for new campers. Call Julie at (724) 452-4453 ext. 1236 to schedule a visit.
A separate packet of camp releases must be completed and returned on or before the start of camp.
